Prelude to the Fourth of July

Independence Day, the 4th of July, is just a few days away.  Anyone who has visited my home, knows that we celebrate our country’s Christian heritage year round.   We are thankful for the pilgrims who came to this country, yearning to protect their families from the intrusion of culture into their faith.  My children, through my husband’s side of the family, can trace their American heritage back to William Brewster of the Mayflower.  We fly the American flag at our home every day, but our allegiance is pledged, not to a flag, or even to our wonderful country, but to our Lord and Savior.

God, in His mercy, has allowed us to live in this wonderful land; but we are reminded, daily, that the cost of freedom is not cheap.  It was bought, and is maintained, at a very great cost.  Let’s not forget, as we prepare for picnics and fireworks and such, the men who are prepared to defend our nation and its allies.  Let’s also remember their families who support them at home, and remember to uphold them in prayer.  Jennifer at Mississippi Girl has a terrific post about her husband’s upcoming deployment.  See Mr. Messy
