Corin tagged me with this Christmas meme.  Too fun!!  I won’t tag anyone outright to answer this, but if you do decide to do this on your own blog, let me know.  I’d LOVE to come read your answers!

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?

Now that’s a tough one. Usually anything chocolate would be the obvious choice.  Egg Nog, however, skews that a bit.  Copper LOVES egg nog.  He really does enjoy fixing us up a “nog” in the evening to sip while we read or watch a movie.  Since egg nog is only available seasonally (No, I don’t make it homemade), I’ll say egg nog.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree?

No Santa at our house.  All the gifts are wrapped under the tree, but we put little unwrapped things in one another’s stockings.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?

White.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?

No, we don’t. Copper and I don’t need an excuse to smooch.

5. When do you put your decorations up?

We usually begin the day after Thanksgiving and work on it for a couple of days. We were a few days late this year.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert?)

Ham!!!!

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child:

This is going to sound weird, but my favorite memory isn’t something I remember happening.  However, I did see an old home movie of this and it is now a favorite memory.  That’s weird, I know, but here it is.  The last year my grandfather was living, we traveled to Missouri to spend Christmas with my grandparents.  I was just a couple of weeks short of my fourth birthday.  My grandparents gave me a cute little table and chair set, and my parents gave me a Shirley Temple tea set.  In the home movie, my grandfather sat in one of those little chairs, a long legged man in overalls, drinking cup after cup after cup of the pretend tea I was serving him from my tea set.  No sound, in those old movies, of course, but I didn’t need it.  Not really having any memories of my Granddad, it filled my heart seeing that scene on the movie.  My Granddad very obviously adored his only grandchild.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?

Third grade on the playground during recess. Brutal, I tell you, brutal.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?

We always spend Christmas Eve with Copper’s Dad’s side of the family.  We have dinner together and then open gifts from one another.  We save our immediate family gifts for Christmas morning.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?

We have several!  The main tree, though, is decorated with white lights, rose ornaments, pink and white ornaments, a few hand painted ornaments (by Dani, of course) and dozens of silk pink roses.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?

We don’t have snow, so it would be easy for me to say Love It.  However, I will be realistic and say that while I’d love looking at it, from the warmth of my own home, I would probably dread the shoveling, slippery sidewalks, etc., that snow would mean.

12. Can you ice skate?

Last time I checked I could, but I’ve not checked in about 20 years!

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?

An engagement ring from Copper the Christmas of 1977!!!

14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you?

Besides the obvious (remembering the birth of Christ), family times are the second most important.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?

Pumpkin Pie with a ton of homemade, sweetened whipped cream on top.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?

Spending an evening driving around with the kids looking at holiday lights!

17. What tops your tree?

A Precious Moments angel that was a gift from a dear friend.

18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving?

Giving!  I love watching faces when things are opened!

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?

Ooooo, tough call!  If you’ve read my blog much you know that I have a rather, ahem, eclectic taste in music.  But, at least for this year, my all time favorite Christmas song is Josh Groban’s version of Oh, Holy Night.

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yummy?

Oh, Yummy, definitely yummy.

God bless you as you look well to the ways of your household.
Proverbs 31:27

  • I loved reading your Christmas meme.  My absolute favorite thing was your “memory” of  your Grandfather that was captured on film.  What a wonderful “memory” to tuck away in your heart!  BTW, pumpkin pie is my favorite, too, oh, and lot’s of  whipped cream on top, of course!!
