A few months ago, Copper started working a lot of overtime.  The overtime was not required by his employer, but rather, he was signing up for it voluntarily.  His schedule is to work three 12 hour shifts one week, and four 12 hour shifts the second week.  This gives him Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and every other Wednesday off.  He started signing up to work all of his “off” Wednesdays, and even some of his Tuesdays off.  I was puzzled, but when I asked he just mentioned that he wanted to put a little “cush” into our bank account, or something similar.  The truth of the matter is that he had a plan up his sleeve.

In honor of my 50th birthday, my husband has arranged for us, just the two of us,  to go on a cruise next week!!!  Yikes!!!  We’ve never been on a cruise before!!  As I mentioned once before, our vacations normally center around a camping trip (which I thoroughly enjoy, I might add!).  I am so blessed that he would work so hard for so many extra hours to do this for my birthday.  Thank you, my love!

I’m nervous, of course, about travelling; and I’m a mom, so I’m worried about leaving the kids at home.  Yes, yes, yes, I KNOW that Dani is a responsible adult.  I also know that her older sister and her husband are just a phone call away.  We also have several good neighbors who are just a stone’s throw away.  Still, I am a mom…….I’ll miss them all terribly.

Oh, but I am also VERY excited!!  I’m excited to take a plane trip to southern California.  (I’ve not flown for over 20 years!!!)  I’m not so excited about the shuttle ride through the Los Angeles traffic from the airport to the port, though.  I am excited to board a cruise ship and be pampered all week.  I’m excited to take a few shore excursions in places I’ve never been before.

Here’s a secret, though.  I’m really, REALLY excited to spend four days away with my beloved.  We just don’t go away together, just the two of us, much; so it’s a real treat when we do.

So where are we going??  We are leaving home very early Monday morning to drive to the airport in the nearby city.  We will then fly to Los Angeles International Airport.  From there, we will take a shuttle to the port.  Our ship will set sail that evening for the following ports of call:  San Diego, Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico.  I’ve been to San Diego a few times, but I’ve never been to Catalina Island or to Mexico.  We will return home late Friday.

If you’d like, you can see  more about our cruise by clicking hereIf you do, you can also click the Oceanview staterooms link to see a sample of what our room on board will look like.  It’s tiny!  However, we do have a porthole! I’m not sure, yet, which shore excursions we’ll be taking, but here are our choices.  Fun stuff!  I can’t wait.  I also can’t wait to get back home!

God bless you as you look well to the ways of your household!

  • Good for you!  I’m so excited for you!  I know that you are thankful to be blessed with a husband who treats you like a queen.:)

    I hope you have a wonderful trip!:sunny:

  • Hi there ~ I’m Kathy, new to Xanga, and I commented on your blog yesterday, and sent you an invite to be my friend.  Thanks for accepting!  I just adore Corin, and I’m looking forward to getting to know you and Dani as well!  I’m so glad you had such a wonderful birthday!

I wanted to tell you that my sister and I took the EXACT cruise you are taking in 1991.  You will LOVE Catalina Island.  It is so lovely.  At least it was then!  Sand Diego was nice too.  The little beggar children in Ensenada broke my heart, (and they are everywhere, and DON’T take no for an answer when they try to sell you their little handmade items) but we got some great deals on some wonderful stuff bartering with the salespeople in the stores!  I got some wonderful travel bags that I still have and love. It was wonderful to be pampered on the ship.  The food and service was incredible.  Our room was tiny too, but very enjoyable.  I think you will really enjoy yourself.  How wonderful of your sweet hubby to give you this trip! I’ll be checking back to see how it goes.  I’ll be praying for a safe trip, and a great time together….have fun!

    Love, Kathy

  • Ohh I bet you have a trip of a life time. It all sounds so exciting. I am so happy for you and you deserve it xoxox Clarice

  • Well that Mr. Copper is a gem AND quite the romantic:heartbeat: fellow!!  I am so excited and happy for you.  I know you will both have a wonderful time and we all look forward to the wonderful pictures you will be sharing with us. I just have one more thing to say,  ” BON VOYAGE!!”

  • How exciting! 🙂 What a wonderful suprise. I can’t wait to hear all about it.

  • I forgot about the beggar children! (Kathy’s post) If it wouldn’t have embarrassed Memom so much, I would’ve bought chicklets from them just on principle! They make a HUGE deal on the bus not to buy ANYTHING from them. Why? Because their parents don’t send them to the public school! 😆

  •   You know I think it is so funny that I didn’t see a single child selling Chiclets when I was in Mexico!  I have heard so many people talk about them.  Of course, knowing me, I was just oblivious and they were swarming around me :fun:

  • What a wonderful birthday present.  I pray that you and your dear husband have a great time…can’t wait to hear all about it when you return.
