I was in town yesterday for a doctor’s appointment, and decided to stop by our local take & bake pizza joint for a fun Valentine’s dinner for the kids.  Of course, this particular pizza joint is in the same parking lot as my favorite thrift store.  This is an “upscale” thrift store (they are picky abut the donations they accept), run by volunteers for the American Cancer Society.  It’s quite small.  Oh, but I’ve found some fun things there for a song!  Wonderful out-of-print books.  Antique children’s books.  Craft books.  Books to buy for resale on e-bay.   (hmmmm…..guess which area I head for first when I go in!).   I also found my Christmas tree dishes and silver serving pieces there last fall.   Its’s a great little shop.

I’ve wanted a new church dress for ever so long, so I usually check out the racks of clothes.  I don’t generally find much there.  Yesterday, though, Oh!  Yesterday!!!

I found a brand new, April Cornell dress, with store tags still attached.  Yes, I did, and I was so excited!!   I quickly made my way to a dressing room to try it on and almost danced my way to the check out!!!   It fit!  It’s beautiful!   Layers of soft fabric, and tulle.   A long and flowing style, with beautiful flowing 3/4 length sleeves.   A slimming black print, with purple flowers.   Very feminine.   The original $149.00 price tag is still hanging on the dress, but the thrift store’s $18.00 tag was clipped by their check out lady!   I’m almost giddy at my found treasure!

God bless you as you look well to the ways of your households!

  • WOW…what a deal!  Such a pretty dress too!  That will look lovely with your beautiful hair!  Isn’t it fun to find things like that?  I wish we had a store like that nearby.  Unfortunately our thrift store doesn’t care what they take in, so I can never find anything worth wearing….bummer!  I’m glad you found something.  You’ll look great in it!  Have a wonderful day!   ~Kathy~

  • What a beautiful dress!  I love April Cornell, but have never bought anything of hers for obvious reasons – like $149 price tags! The Lord blessed you with such a good find.

  • I know what you mean about April Cornell prices!  There used to be a lovely  April Cornell boutique in the big city near where we live.  I never really even ventured in.  I was more like a kid with his nose pressed against the glass at the candy store! 😆   I feel so *blessed* that God provided this dress for me!

  • How pretty! I just bought an April Cornell poncho (ivory lace) at a thrift store in Roseville for $2.

I like the Discovery thrift stores, too. I recently bought one daughter her hope chest there(handmade-cedar-huge) for a good price, and I bought a *really funky purse* which I love, for $30, but it was a *lot* more new, and it will last for a long time.

I love finding buried treasure :-).

  • Oh my goodness! This is really interesting because I just donated *that dress* to the Amerian Cancer Society Thrift Shop in my town!!! Do we live in the same town..or nearby? Seriously, it’s the exact dress **with** tags. I donated a number of other things that day too – 6 bags worth. I’m soooo happy you’ve been blessed with this most precious dress, Coppers Wife!

  • LulasHardt:  Thanks!!!  I am absolutely sure this must be your dress!!!  It’s a very small world, isn’t it?

  • It’s absolutely beautiful, Copperswife!!!
