Melt-In-Your-Mouth Cookies

I love this cookie recipe. Not only are these cookies tender and sweet, but the recipe card is written in my late mother’s own hand. The recipe is one she was given by one of her best friends. These cookies really do melt in your mouth.  They would be lovely to serve at a tea, or for a ladies get-together. Dani doubled the recipe today to make our usual huge platter of cookies for our church fellowship lunch.

Melt-in-Your-Mouth Cookies

1 cup butter
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups flour
Sugar for dipping

Cream oil, butter and sugars together. Add vanilla and eggs. Sift dry ingredients together and stir and blend in.  Chill. Drop by rounded teaspoons into sugar**. Bake on cookie sheet sugar side up after pressing with fork dipped in sugar. Bake 10-12 minutes at 375°.

**Dani mixed two different colors of food coloring into her dipping sugar this morning, and the cookies turned out beautifully.
