The Best We Can Do

It’s official.  We are now ALL sick!  Dani woke up not feeling well this morning.  Drats!  I’d hoped she wouldn’t catch any of this, but I suppose it was inevitable.  I cannot remember a time that we have ever had anything like this in our home.  Ever.  William has been sick, almost constantly, for a month.  Aaron was sick, well, and is now sick again.  I have now been down for two weeks.  My husband has been fevered, off and on, for five days now, and is still not feeling any better.  I am watching carefully for signs of secondary infection in a couple of us, and monitoring asthma in a couple more.  My sweet Corin and her girls are down again, too.

I do appreciate all of your prayers and well wishes, as well as your helpful advice.  Please know, I am doing everything that my almost 28 years of motherhood has taught me to care for my family.  This, however, is no ordinary cold/virus/influenza!

Thankfully, each of us has a couple of good hours every day, and a good better part of the day every few days.  I’m having one of those “good the better part of the day” days today.

We are experiencing absolutely gorgeous weather for mid-February!  The temperature this afternoon is near 60°, and signs of approaching spring are everywhere.  We even have a day old lamb!  God is good and His enduring promise that the seasons will continue is something I am clinging to just now.  It’s good to know that after this long, long winter of illness that there will, indeed, be a spring of renewed health and returned vitality.

All three of us planned on being quiet today, but only two of us were actually up to it.

God bless you as you look well to the ways of your household!

  • Oh Cheryl!  So sorry that yours and Corin’s family just can’t shake your sicknesses.   I wish I had some great advice.   I will continue to pray but in more earnest that you all recover very soon.   Take care!

  • Rob says we all oughta just get together and have one big sick-out.  Of couse that’s coming from the healthy one!

  • Ohhh I am so sorry to hear!  I keep two things on hand for colds and the flu…Grapefruit Seed Extract (pill form) and The Flu Solution (homeopathics).  The Grapefruit Seed Extract will nip anything in the bud before it has a chance to get started and usually prevents it before the aches, pains and fevers hit.

Please take and don’t over do!!!

  • I’m with you 🙁 Whatever this is, it isn’t fun. If you want something to be thankful for, be thankful you aren’t also pregnant :whocares:

  • Just a thought – did you remember to switch out everybody’s toothbrushes?  I always try to do that when I’m feeling better, or when I’ve finished an antibiotic.

Sorry you’ve all got the “ickies”.  Lost of warm, cozy wishes coming your way with prayers for healing.

  • Hope ya’ll get to feeling better soon!  I’m the only one in our house that has it……no one else wants to get near me! LOL Suz

  • Good idea….switching out toothbrushes. Also, consider using paper towels instead of hand towels in the bathrooms. Lots of fluids. Rest. Rest. Rest. Oh, did I mention rest? Ummmmmmm, that’s all I can think of. These bugs that are going around are naaaaaaaasty! :p

    I. Don’t. Want. Them. 😡

Hope everyone’s on the mend SOON!

  • No new advice but I am praying for all of you!! ((((Cheryl))))

  • Hi Cheryl,

I hope all are well soon. Brandy had to go to the Er today. She has that nasty flu going around and fluid on her left lung. She is one sick baby. I felt so sorry for her when she called me tonight. What’s a mama to do 600 miles away but cry with her baby.

    Prayers and Blessings,

    Elizabeth

  • Poor Cheryl and family! We suffered for almost 2 months straight with the same stuff. Our regimen was more centered on patience and survival: funny movies, Gatorade, throat coat tea (or any type they will tolerate), applesauce, chicken soup, and other bland things that are easy on the tummy. No sugar! That will hinder the immune system from fighting back. That includes fruit juice, too, unless they truly need electrolytes, which is why we kept different flavors of Gatorade on hand.

Praying for health to return soon. Try to get the sick ones to get out a bit in the sunshine, too!

  • Hope that health will soon return to your family.

  • Goodness!! I’m so sorry to hear that y’all are so sick! The flu and strep is going around in these parts. Fortunately we had flu shots last fall but you never know if it’s a a new strain. I hope you guys feel  better soon!

    Hugs,

  • Oh I hope you all get better soon. It was fun to catch up with you all!! Poor Will looked awful. I pray he is up and running quickly! It sounds like a monster of a bug! We had something similar around here in Oct. & Nov. I had it twice.

    Blessings~Bren
