Things That Are Making Me Smile

There are several things that have made me smile this week.  Just little things, but they’ve all been so good that I want to share them.  I take such delight in little things!

We don’t have a K-Mart in our area.  However, there’s a really nice, clean one in a city about half an hour to our south.  I was coming back up the highway from that direction on Thursday and decided to stop in.  I found a few things that made pulling my pantry together a reality, but what really made me smile was finding these beautiful tablecloths and napkins on a clearance rack.  The 60 x 102 cloths, the perfect size for my table without its leaves, were priced at jut $4.00.  The napkins, two to a package, were $1.50.  I bought to tablecloths and four packages of napkins.  What fun!

My kitchen has a bit of an Americana theme to it.  It’s not overly so, but the color scheme is dark red, cream and dark blue.  The problem with that is that the only time of year that I can find nice kitchen towels is in the summer.  I was so pleased to find these towels, at the same K-Mart, priced at $3.50 a two pack. Eight new towels are now washed, folded and put away in my kitchen drawer, and several faded, stained and/or torn towels have been moved out!

When I do the mega shop every other Friday, I use cash.  When the cashiers hand me coins back, I put them into a zippered pocket in my purse.  When I come home I empty the coins into a pint jar that I keep in a cabinet in my bedroom.  The coin counter at our grocery store does not charge for the counting service if you redeem your coins into an Amazon gift card.  I thought that this would be a fun way to occasionally have some extra money to spend buying books for our Heritage Library.  I’m not sure how long I’ve been filling this jar, but I took it in to the Coinstar machine yesterday.

This was the end result!!!  Wow!  $48.74!!!  I was so pleased while I stood there watching the running total adding up higher and higher.  I’ll be placing an Amazon order the first of next week.

Here’s the jar now, with the change from yesterday’s shopping trip in the bottom.  I came home with $2.89 worth of coins.  In the grand scheme of things, that wee bit isn’t missed while I’m buying food and supplies for our home, but added to the change from the next several trips, it grows to a nice sum!

IMG_4660      This made me smile this morning for a great many reasons.  First, there are a lot of woodpeckers in our area this spring.  I’m sure that they do a bit of damage here and there, but I love hearing them at work.  The other reason that this picture made me smile is that it was taken by my William.  He was disappointed that the woodpecker flew away before he got back out with the camera.   He really is a good little photographer!  His pictures are better than mine.  It’s amazing to me that my very busy little boy not only sees all these wonderful sites, but that he can stand still to frame and take such beautiful shots!

Speaking of pictures, the girls and I were quiet today!  My pantry is done, and I’m hoping to have a post and pictures of that up soon.  If you want a little teaser, though, you can check out Because They Are Quiet for a sneak peek.

God bless you as you look well to the ways of your household!

  • We have a change jar too. All change from all shopping trips goes in that jar, and tips DH gets at work, and anything found in the washer/dryer. We take that money, and that is what we use to take the girls to the State Fair in October.

I think that I need to move my jar out of people’s site because it looks as though the coin level has mysteriously gone down

    I wanna see that pantry!

  • Love the new tablecloths and love the new cloth napkins.
Love the pictures that your son took.
    God Bless,

  • I am so pleased to know about the coin machine …. my amazon/book budget is tapped and this just may be the ticket to enable me to get the last few books from my list to finish out the school year.

    Thanks Cheryl!

  • What great finds! New kitchen linens are always such a good feeling!

I see you have more than just girls with photography skills!!! It must somehow run in the family!
