Our Day Was Blessedly Full

I know I say that when I am home a lot, and I mean it then, too.  Today was blessedly full, but in a very different way.  Our vacation continued with a full day, open to close, at Disneyland.  The park is closing early these days, and we found out from an employee that they are all a bit surprised that the park is closing early in mid-May.  Normally the park would be operating 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. on weekdays.  Apparently, the early park closures until mid-June are due to the economy.  Hmmm………pondering that one.

We had a blast today riding all of the rides in Adventureland, Frontierland, Critter Country and about half of the rides in Fantasyland.  Whew!!  It sounds like a lot, but we kept things at a very leisurely pace.

     Highlights of the day:

We rode Splash Mountain.  Tip:  Be sure to visit the Fast Pass Kiosk an hour or so before you want to actually ride Splash Mountain.  We got our Fast Passes, then we rode the Winnie the Pooh ride and had lunch before returning to ride Splash Mountain.  The line for the ride was 35 minutes long, but we were able to by-pass most of that line with our Fast Passes and were on in about 7 minutes.  Yee haw!  Now they will tell you that you will get wet on this ride, and that you MAY get soaked.  I’ve been on it a couple of times before and got wet.  Today, oh, my!  Can you see my bangs plastered to my head and my glasses all wet???

Today, I got DRENCHED.  Absolutely soaked to the skin!!  At one point in time, while I was still seated in the ride, there was water pooled up in my skirt!  I don’t know when I’ve laughed so hard!!!  The rest of my family got wet, but I was the only one who was soaked.  It took me about four hours to finally get all the way dry. I’m thankful for 100% cotton clothing!  I’m really glad that it was LOTS warmer today.

We enjoyed taking this picture in one of the back streets of New Orleans Square.  Do you all know the secret of #33???  You know, it took every ounce of will power and self-control I possess to not ring that bell and then run!!!

Will and I ran into Gipetto as we were making a quick bathroom run.  What a treat it is to not only see the Disney characters wandering about the park, but to be able to snap a quick picture with them as well.

Dani and I had that much-anticipated French Dip Sandwich today at the French Market Restaurant, but they not longer serve the deep fried cheesecake.  Rats!  However, a Dixieland jazz trio performed during our lunch, and brought out a lovely singer to join them.  Queenie was wonderful, and absolutely beautiful;  but a highlight for us was her picking Copper out in the audience to sing along with her during, “When You’re Smiling”.

I have to tell you how proud I was, though.  She held the mike down for him to sing the word, “smiling” the first time and found out that she hadn’t picked just any old fella out in the audience.  My husband can sing!  She had a surprised look on her face and said, “Alright!” before continuing on.  She allowed him to chime in with more words than she normally would because of his voice, too!!!  What a hoot!

We finished up the day eating our dinner sitting on the curb on Main Street so that we would have good seats for the 7:00 p.m. parade.  We were seated before 6:00 and enjoyed people watching, as well as all the other little treats that Disney sends down Main Street before the parade starts, while we ate.

      My boys!

Day two of pictures that have me wondering, “What is Dani thinking about?”

We thought we could catch a couple, maybe three, rides in the half hour that remained after the parade, but the ride we were next in line for broke down.  We stayed put and were able to ride it eventually, but the park was closed by the time our ride was over.  We’ll finish up in Disneyland on Thursday.  Tomorrow we’ll spend the day at the sister park, California Adventure.

     We’re having a blast!

God bless you as you look well to the ways of your household!

  • Rob just pointed something out, that I hadn’t noticed…

Are you going to Photoshop out, the little girl picking her nose, behind Dad while he’s singing?  Or is that part of the ambiance? šŸ˜†

  • So glad that ya’ll are having such a wonderful time!

That pic of you and DH is a great pic.

  • I cracked up as I read about you getting soaked on that ride.  That happened to my MIL on a ride at Disneyworld, and I don’t know when I have laughed so hard.  It was one of those rapids rides, and she got dumped on, and the look on her face was PRICELESS.  I’m SO glad you all are having so much fun together!

  • Oh, how fun! Neat for you guys! Andy and I (and Christian, too!) were actually IN #33 last November…

  • Gorgeous pic of you and Copper! I too am wondering what is on Dani’s mind…a deep thinker, or just plotting her next ride??? Great pic of your guys!

Too funny about the girl picking her nose. Do you have a video option on your camera? A video of Copper singing would have been awesome!!!

    Have fun today!!!

  • Oh, I am so glad you are making wonderful family memories.

Having two grown kids, you know how fast times goes.

I’d have loved to have been a part of your family on this day. šŸ™‚

  • Oh that nose pickin’ is so part of the ambiance!  It would have fit in better with the Hillbilly number we saw later in the day though.

  • At least she’s a cute little girl!!!  I didn’t even see her, to tell you the truth.  I was too smitten with my husband to see anything else!

  • I feel like I’m taking a virtual vacation with you! I love it and the pictures are wonderful. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us!
