February Is A Month For Celebration

Though February may be a dreary, mid-winter month, it also brings lots of opportunities for celebration!  This year, in my home, we are going to observe several February holidays.  Most of our celebrations will be very low key and will center, for the most part, around a good book or two.  (Or three, or four!)  However, we may throw caution to the wind and really whoop it up for a couple of these special days!
I’ve often shared holiday books and ideas with you, but I usually share them after the fact.  This year, I hope to share with you far enough in advance that you can find the books at your local library or, perhaps, purchase copies for your own Heritage Library
I also plan to include some fun, educational ideas so that you can make the most of each of these special days in your home and/or homeschool.  Invite the neighborhood children in to join you.  Include your grandbabies.  The idea is to learn a thing or two, have fun, and celebrate!

There are quite a few February holidays to prepare for, so be watching for these holiday related posts to begin in the next day or two.  To make these special posts easier to find, each post will begin with the word “Celebrate”.  I’m excited!
Here are the February celebrations I plan to cover, and the date when the celebration occurs for the year 2010.  Things get pretty exciting mid-month!

  • February 2 – Groundhog Day
  • February 10 – Chinese New Year
  • February 12 – Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday
  • February 14 – Valentine’s Day
  • February 15 – President’s Day
  • February 16 – Mardi Gras
  • February 22 – George Washington’s Birthday

Watch for the first post, “Celebrate Groundhog Day”, (which will include a drawing for a book) soon.

God bless you as you look well to the ways of your household!

  • Knowing I’ll love ’em, looking forward to your suggestions.

  • Hi Cheryl,

Isn’t someone celebrating a birthday in January???????? LOL

  • All this plus my two sons have February birthdays – one on the first, the other on the 12th. It’s a busy month for us, too! Can’t wait to hear how you celebrate!

  • Not to mention Olympics… lots of good geography can be done!  We will be studying about the history of the games and finding the countries represented, and doing a study on Vancouver.  Can’t wait to see your suggestions! Do you ever find the problem that you get so many ideas you never have time to do them all?  I have a hard time prioritizing! Everything looks so interesting. LOL… Have a great day!
