Copper’s Day Off – The Heat Is On!

We’ve had triple digit temperatures for six days now, and the forecast calls for triple digits until Friday. Northern California is sizzling!

Copper's new big screen TV

Copper carefully unpacking his new TV.

Copper has long wanted a new TV and a Blue-ray player. That man works so much overtime, but the money always seems to be needed for other things. He was blessed with an exceptionally large, and very unexpected, check for his birthday this year. I’m so glad that he splurged and bought the new electronics that he’s wanted for so long. He was so excited, he actually sat outside in the heat this morning waiting for the UPS man to arrive.

102 at Game Time
Will had a game this evening at 5:15. It was 102Β° at game time, and climbed to 104ΒΊ by the second inning.Β We brought our own shade and plenty of water. I can’t imagine how hot it must have felt to the boys on the field. We won, 8 – 6!

Chopping onions for chili

He’s such a cheerful chopper!

Aaron started some Crockpot Chicken Chili for us around noon, so we had dinner ready when we got home from the game. We were hot, tired and weary, and coming home to a delicious smelling dinner was a wonderful thing. The recipe is one that Dani pinned on her Pinterest boards, and it was a keeper. Next time, though, we’ll try using only half as much Cayenne as the recipe calls for. It was just a touch too hot for me!

My husband was hoping for an overtime shift today, but I’m so glad he was home. He was able to be here when his new electronics arrived, and he was able to spend the afternoon getting it all unpacked and set up. We ended the day rather late, at midnight, after watching a movie together on the big screen.

How was your Monday?

  • We’ve had a summer of hot weather coupled with high humidity…so we’ve been hibernating in our a/c! Well, not really but we hang there as much as possible. The last several days have been cooler and low humidity so we were outdoors as much as possible!

Rainy here this morning again…considering how dry other parts of the country are, I am not complaining.

    • Summer rain is rare in my part of California. Our a/c has been running pretty much non-stop from mid morning until late at night. I’m hoping we get a break soon.

  • We have finally had cooler temperatures and a little rain. Heat is expected again in perhaps a week but it feels wonderful right now.

We had to go to Danville, Illinois Monday for my husband’s pre-op tests at the VA hospital there. The hernia surgery he had done while a soldier in Viet Nam has failed so he has to have surgery in early September.

He leaves for a reunion with his Viet Nam buddies less than a week later so we are praying for a quick recovery.

I wish Christopher had known how to put together a Crock Pot meal! πŸ™‚

    • I’m so glad to hear that you’ve had a bit of rain and some respite from the heat. I’ll be watching for when your husband’s surgery is planned and will pray for his quick healing so he can enjoy his reunion.

Yesterday’s crockpot recipe was very, very simple. Aaron’s cooking skills are very rudimentary.

  • My Monday went well. Doug is back to work this week, Isaac’s caregiver was back from vacation. I cooked a new dish for supper and it was yummy. Aaaaaand…Isaac slept all night! Yep, it was good day! πŸ™‚

So glad that y’all didn’t melt at the game, and that Copper got some sweet new tech for his birthday! πŸ™‚

    • Alesha – It felt like we were melting at the game! As the teams switched positions every half inning, all of the parents/family would get up and readjust their chairs to make the most of the very, very limited shade. It was kind of funny!

Yay for Doug’s being back at work. Yay for his caregiver being back from vacation. Double yay for Isaac’s sleeping all night!

Wow..I didn’t think temperatures got hotter in California than here in S.E. Florida. I am sure you are spending a lot of time in the pool πŸ™‚

YAY, he got his tv!!! Did you all ooooooooo and aaaaaaaahhh? What’d you watch on it?

    Good job cooking dinner, Aaron!

8 of us slept through the majority of our Monday. It was yummy! πŸ˜€

  • Yesterday was spent getting a few things done so we could go play today! Only one more week until Matthew starts college and Kelsey starts 7th grade. Going to be different homeschooling one. So glad your hubby was able to get his TV!

    Hi Cheryl,
Never-ending hot here in the San Fernando Valley, CA. I can relate.
I’d be interested in seeing the finished TV set-up in your wall unit. We have a similar wall unit with a old styled boxy TV. I can’t seem to get a vision for how the rectangular TV fits in the square-ish “hole.” Does the TV sit back against the wall or pulled forward? I trust your husband’s know-how; a handier man I never saw.
Hoping to upgrade with the next windfall check..

I’m so glad that Copper got his electronics. I had to chuckle at the idea of him being so excited that he sat in the heat waiting for it’s arrival! πŸ™‚

The chili sounds good, I think I’ll have to give that one a try.

Hope you can get in some relaxation this weekend.
